Bian Ly took the leash and was off like a shot, Schadenfreude bounding happily along beside her, tail a veritable blur. An-qi took several seconds to recover, drawing deep breaths and waiting for her heart to stop beating like a frightened bird's. She really needed to work on her endurance.
She'd lost sight of her friends, but that problem would soon be remedied. An-qi and her talisman had a brief, wordless exchange, and moments later, a grey goose flapped heavily towards the open sky above the buildings.
With a literal bird's-eye view, she easily found Bian Ly and Schadenfreude. She couldn't spot On-ji, but she hadn't been expecting to be able to find a black, vaguely cat-sized creature in the dark alleyways. Nor was Gobshite anywhere to be seen. An-qi supposed a black-and-white, smaller-than-cat-sized dog would also be rather difficult to spot.
Executing a rather awkward turn (geese weren't built to fly in tight circles), she continued to scan the area. No luck on her end. None on her friends', either, judging by the lack of summoning shouts.

Bian Ly crept closer to the dumpster and was just about to peer around it when there was a streak of white and whatever was behind the container fled once again. Schadenfreude continued to wag her happy bushy tail as she pranced beside her.
“Why Gobshite, why?” The Vietnamese girl mumbled under her breath as she picked her way through the alley in search for the black and white dog. This was not how she planned to spend her night. But then again, running into the back of An-Qi’s van wasn’t how she wanted to start the trip either.
“Oi, Freude. Can you be of any more help?” Bian Ly stopped to ask the German Sheppard mix, but the dog’s only reply was to look up at her all happy and wag her tail. “Jeez, no wonder we named you Schadenfreude.” Just as she finished her sentence, the dog paused before staring off in one direction, behind some garbage cans.
She approached them stack slowly, but before she got within two meters of it, there was another streak of white that was undoubtedly Gobshite. The terrier took off and right out the alley, disappearing around the corner.
“Guys!” She shrieked so that On-Ji and An-Qi could hear her, wherever they were. “Out! The little bugger’s in the street, follow him!”
