Satoshi ‘Reyes’ Ando stood outside the Victorian designed building, looking up at the elegant writing that said ‘The Silent Rose’. He took a piece of paper from his pocket and read the address again, then looked back up at the sign. ”Why me, Aurelia…” He thought in despair. A friend of his, Aurelia Locke, a cute Vietnamese girl he met while he was in England, had given him the address to what she said was; “A nice eating place, nothing too fancy.” But this was not the thing he had in mind. This was the most elegant freaking place in town and she said it was nothing too fancy!!
Reyes crumpled up the paper and threw it in the nearby trash can, what to do? He didn’t have an appointment to keep or anything, but he was hungry and never been to a place like this before. He took out his wallet and glanced at the folded bills; about $250 on him right now, so it was probably okay. He was sort of dressed properly enough. Sort of. He was wearing one of his semi-formal shirts with a tie, which was okay, except for the fact it had a tattoo-interacted dragon on the back with a sleeveless mesh shirt underneath. He was wearing his pair of heavily-ripped denims and flat white and black shoes. His hair was messy as usual, he wondered if they’d let him in at all.
Deciding that he would just wing it, he headed inside, buttoning up his shirt to hide the mesh underneath. It was fairly busy that night, a whole lot of fancily dressed people in tuxes and posh dresses and jewelry. He must’ve stood out like a fox in a pack of hounds. It was a dimly lit kind of place and lots of hushed talking with soft melodies playing in the setting. He ran his fingers through his hair, trying to fix it up the best he could.
This was going to be one heck of a night.

Vicky stood serving the usual snobby customers, in her white button up dress shirt, classy tied and black slacks. She put the drinks on their table and with a forced smile left them when she saw a man walk in. She grumbled to herself, hating her job. Her long blonde hair that dropped to way past her shoulder blades had streaks of black, and her eyes as was her custom, were lined in black. She walked over to the font door, grabbing a menu. Welcome to The Silent Rose. Just one? Follow me. She said in a dull drone, not giving him time to answer if it was just him. She didnt even look at him, for she just looked at the clock, waiting til it said 9pm so she could punch out. It was only 7pm, two more hours of this crap hole. She lead him to a table giving him his menu. Good evening, my name is Vicky and ill be your sever tonight. She pulled out the small notebook and pen, leaning her weight on one leg and with a bored face looked at the man. Do you know what you would like for drinks?

A waitress finally came over to him after about an hour of waiting and being ignored. She didn’t look like the type of person to be working here, more like the type of person who would work at a garage or something. She had streaks of black in her long blond hair and eyeliner caked around her… Well, eyes. Her voice was a dull whirr as she walked away, not taking a look back at him. Reyes sat down at the table she showed him, nice white linen with a rose-shaped candle burning. He noticed she kept glancing at the clock. Then she asked him what he wanted to drink.
He wondered briefly if they had any of the kinds of drinks he liked or was it just wine. He was never a big fan of wine, of course, he preferred other stuff. He decided to order something somewhat elegant, or maybe it was that he was pretty sure they had all the ingredients to that one. ”Eh… An Izakaya Garden, if you can.” He said as agreeably as he could. The woman didn’t look to happy to be here in the first place. He wondered briefly about his hair; seeing the woman, Vicky, was it, with her died hair made him remember he needed to get more highlights soon.

Vicky looked up form her pad when he said what he wanted to drink. A what? Sir, Im not sure if we have that here. Maybe another choice. From my guess you are not much of a wine person, but we have other mixed drinks. She switched her weight to her other leg and for the first time really looked at the guy. His messy hair caught her attention, she was supposed to tell people that had to be dressed nicely, but she never cared. His clothes seemed to be nice enough. Do you need more time? She said, glancing at her own watch. I dont really have all night, as you can see we are quite full and I have other tables to attend to. She tried to smile and be nice about it, but the matter of fact was she hated to be there and being nice for her didnt always come freely, or easily. Only a few Hunters got to see the nice vicky. And only a few men get to see the flirty side. She smoothed out her shirt and pants and threw a section of her hair behind her shoulders. She began tapping her foot, a habit that she had acquired over the years.

”Oh,” He said awkwardly when she said they didn’t have that. But then he laughed lightly, his positive attitude not weighing him down. For a brief moment he thought of teasing her for a bit, naming off some other drinks he was sure she wouldn’t know, like a Hurricane Dragon or a Pumpkin French 75, but decided not to, he didn’t want to be mean or anything. He leaned to the side and saw that they had Sweet Vermouth and Bitters. ”You don’t need much. It’s just Hendrick’s Gin and… Never mind, an Artillery please.”He could see she was trying to be nice about it so he gave her a closed lip smile. ”Yeah, I see. My name’s Reyes by the way.” He held out his hand fro her to shake. ”May I ask, where did you get your hair done?” He wanted to start small conversation, but there was something emitting from her that made him feel odd. Not good or bad, just odd. Was she a Hunter? Or an Innocent? He decided to get some more time close so he could figure it out. ”Sorry about the Izakaya Garden thing, it’s one my favorites.” He smiled again, it was no trouble, he began to get a better feel of what she was. {Note: Ignore all the alcohol references, you don't need to know them very well. I'm into bartending so if the language gets a little wacky tell me and I'll cut it down. }

Vicky raised her eyebrows in an obvious way to say she really didnt care what was in it, just order something we do have. When he offered his hand she looked at, but chose to write down his drink order instead. She was about to walk away when he asked her where she got her hair done. She hesitated, caught off guard about the question. I did it myself. With that she eyed him up and down, as if trying to figure out what he was like and what she should think of him. She turned away and gave the bartender his order and walked off to tend to a few other tables. A few minutes later she brought him his drink, placing it on the table by his right hand. Do you know what you would like to eat? Or do you need more time? She asked, again giving her forced smile.

Reyes could see she obviously didn’t care about what was in a drink. He wondered if she even knew what an Artillery was, but he would leave that for later. She had said she had done the hair herself; very nicely done. He eyed it as she walked from table to table; she had nice hair, blond with a little golden tinge to it and the black streaks. He turned his attention to the menu. It was all crazy French stuff that he didn’t exactly know; he just tried to find something that didn’t have an over inflated price tag and still decent looking. He decided to just go with the Ginning Snapper, and not a moment too soon. Vicky gave him his drink and asked him what he wanted; another forced smile.
”Ginning Snapper.” He said simply, smiling at her once again and taking a sip of his drink. Very suddenly his Caribou side squealed impatiently and he had to throw a hand over his mouth to keep from screaming, luckily all that came out was a little squeak. ”What the hell!?” He lowered his hand and put on his poker face, but in his head he was blaring at his Caribou side… Which was just about efficient as screaming at yourself in the mirror. What was it so excited about now? He tried to push it away and willed himself to not transform into a Caribou, especially in a place like this.

Vicky wrote it down on the pad and flicked her head up when he squeaked. She eyed him wondering what the hell happened. Are...you ok? Should I, like call 911? Or get you a glass of water? Last thing she needed was a customer fainting on the floor on her watch, her table too. The badger in her woke up a bit, for it was almost always dulled from boredom when she was at work. It sensed something, like the sound was familiar to it, but she hushed it and remained looking at Reyes. She slipped the notebook into her black pouch at her waist. Listen, I really dont need anyone getting sick here. Ill get fired and I need this job. So help me god if you screw it up for me. She waited for a moment before turning around to one, put his order in and two get the man a glass of water. She walked back to the table and placed the ice water next to his hand. She wasnt sure if she should wait a minute or two or turn around and get back to work.

He could feel Vicky eyeing him and asked him if he needed 911 or water. He smiled at her reassuringly but some sweat had appeared on his brow as he tried to control the wild Caribou that was now bellowing and screaming in his head. She said something about needing a job and him messing it up, she had an edge to her voice that made the Caribou screech louder. She had gone to get some water and he swore under his breath, not loud enough for anybody to hear. ”Shut up shut up shut up…” He breathed and looked back up when Vicky came back, putting down a glass of water. Another smile, but this time it wavered. Oh wow, this was a bad idea. He would have to go and scream at Aurelia later for this.
”Thanks…” He mumbled. He felt fur begin to grow long his spine and he struggled mentally to push it back down. He had been struggling ever since that faithful day that other Hunter attacked him to control the beast, but it took a lot of work. He was better then he had been, but it was still freakishly feral. ”Eh… Where’s the washroom, please?” He breathed, feeling the skin on his arms and hands prickle as fur began to emerge.

Vicky glanced up and still eyed him, she slowly point to a back corner. Around there on the left. Your food will be out soon. She hesitate one more moment, her badger telling her to keep her wits about her. She cocked her head to the side, long blond hair toppling over her shoulder. She took a step or two back and turned to go wait on her other tables. She approached a middle aged couple, celebrating their anniversary. Oh, how sweet...yuck She thought to herself. Her eyes traveled to the mans table without her thinking about it, but when she realized she was looking at his table she snapped her head back to the couple she was waiting on. She glanced at the clock, almost 8 now, only one more hour so she can break free.

Reyes waited as Vicky pointed to the washroom, rather too slow for his taste. She was eyeing him and he hoped that she wouldn’t see the silvery-grey fur emerging. As soon as he located the washroom he bolted for it and slammed the door behind him. As quickly as he could he grabbed a nearby chair and jammed it up against the doorknob. As fur prickled up his legs and back he swiftly filled the fancy looking glass sink with water, cold water. The second it was full he dunked his head in, soaking his hair and his neck, along his collar bone and a bit of his shirt. The Caribou continued to shriek and cry, but not as loudly as before. At last, his head in the sink, it slowly calmed and quieted. Reyes lifted his head and stared at himself in the mirror. His dark brown eyes looked sharp and untamed and his breathing was heavy. There was already some fur creeping around the edges of his face, but it soon receded. He sighed deeply and slumped onto the wall to his side, sliding down to the floor with his eyes closed. ”Why me…” He thought desolately.
After what seemed like an eternity he got up and took off his white semi-formal, leaving only the partially see-through grey, fabric mesh underneath. He stuck it under the blower to dry and put it back on, not bothering to button it up this time. He dried his hair up the best he could then re-entered the dining area. Vicky was waiting on an old couple and he couldn’t help but smile. He could sense they were to be together until the end of their days. ”If only I could find somebody… Augh!” He shook his head, smiling to himself. At last he came back to his table. He took another sip of his Artillery and waited for his fish to come along.

Vicky saw from the corner of her eye him leaving the washroom and returning to his table. She didnt bother to go over there until his food was ready, which unfortunately was only a minute later. She picked it up in the kitchen and walked over, the hot plate balancing on her hand. She walked slowly, not sure if she wanted to get into this again. She noticed his hair and part of his shirt was wet and she rolled her eyes. Your fish, sir. She forced the sir out, which they were supposed to do here, then paused and continued. Could you be any more obvious? She pointed to his wet hair and shirt collar. She didnt even know what to think, all she knew was something weird was going on. But the badger in her kept telling her what it was but she didnt listen. SHe didnt often listen to her talisman, even when it was mostly right, almost all the time.

Reyes breathed deeply and turned his head slightly to the left, where he saw a young, posh looking couple staring at him. They must’ve seen him run so he just gave them a gentle smile and mouthed ‘okay’. He turned back and saw Vicky coming towards him with the fish he ordered. Very suddenly the Caribou acted up again, but it wasn’t screaming and kicking. Instead, in his mind’s eye, he could see it standing there facing him. It began to mouth some words; he squinted as he tried to make them out. He saw the Caribou mouth something, it started with a B for sure, but he wasn’t sure what it was saying. Most of the time his Caribou side was an inconvenience, but sometimes it actually is useful; like when it was warning him of danger.
”What? What is it?” He thought, urging it on. ”Ba… Bad? Bad what? Something else?” He couldn’t quite make it out; it wasn’t saying bad, there was another bit attached to the end. He frowned and just then Vicky walked up to him with the fish, the snapper or something. Reyes heard her, through gritted teeth, say the ‘sir’ part. Then she suddenly asked him if he could be more obvious, motioning to his hair and collar. He smiled stiffly, ”What?” He asked innocently, but in his head he panicked. Does she know? How does she know? What should he do?

Vicky rolled her eyes and put her hands on her hips, weight on one side so her hips were slanted. Her grey eyes flashed at him. If my manager knows one of my customers got sick and caused a scene, I'll be in big trouble. The running to the washroom and coming back all soaked is a bit of a sigh. Not something they like to see and not something I like to deal with. She threw her hands up and gave a grunt of displeasure, of irritation. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath trying to calm herself so she herself didnt cause a scene. She would get fired, they are really strict in this restaurant. She needed to get out of here. She opened her eyes and glanced at her watch, 25 more minutes, then she can clock out and go home. She looked down at Reyes table, Anything else I can get you? She asked out of the blue, suddenly turning into the 'nice' waitress. Perhaps another drink? She motioned at his near empty glass, waiting for an answer.
Her badger stirred inside her, but she was all skilled at hushing him. It kept trying to say something but she was not in the mood to talk. She eyed the man again, trying to dig deep on what was up with him. Was he an innocent that was, what, crazy? Or maybe he really was sick. Or was a Hunter? Or no body? She shook her head and waited to see if he wanted anything else.

Vicky put her hands on her hips and began to list off a bunch of stuff that he did that could get her in trouble. Then, surprisingly, she turned all nice again and asked him if there was anything he wanted. Reyes was taken a bit off guard but smiled gently, ”Eh… No, it’s okay.” He turned back to his plate, a fish, yeah, but he didn’t remember what kind it was. After the whole Caribou fiasco he could barely remember his own name. ”Thanks…”
He began to eat, it wasn’t too bad but he’d tasted better for a less inflated price tag. He wondered if he should’ve picked something up from The Food Mart and made it at home instead of listening to Aurelia. The violin in the backdrop was relaxing though, and so was the soft lighting. He sighed, becoming tranquil as he ate. It didn’t take long to finish up, maybe about 20 minutes or so. When the bill came he dropped five twenties and a ten for the waitress. He gave one last smile towards the fancy couple and walked out.
