Kali walked with Ryan now, her footsteps steady as she approached the cabin. In her arms she carried a small bag of clothes and other necessities, such as a toothbrush and make-up. She wondered if Jo would be here. Kali couldn't remember if she had ever gotten around to telling her about Ryan or not, but it was too late now. She either knew or she didn't. If she didn't, then she'd find out soon. Kali didn't knock on the door, not wanting to break the silence of the forest and give themselves away to any animals, or humans, that might be lingering in that leafy sea of moss and twigs and trees that towered like giants. The girl opened it for Ryan, and then stepped inside. The skeleton that Jo and she had found was buried out by the willow, but still Kali was always uneasy about the place, even now that the ghost had gone to rest. But, her fear of the Hunters far surpassed that, and she got over it quickly. "Jo?" she called, wondering if she was here. It wasn't likely, but still, Kali thought to check. It would be better if she could tell her before Jo just finding out on her own, if she didn't know already.

Ryan walked in the cabin after and nodded his head in surprise. I was cleaned up nice, with the main room open with a fireplace off to the right and a big round rug in front of it and two chairs, one being a rocking chair. To the left of the room was the kitchen and a table with four chairs, beyond that there was a hallway with 2 or 3 bedrooms in it. He walked over to the fireplace and since the cabin did not have heat, he lit a fire. The nights were cold here out in the woods and they were dark, for he did not see any light switches. He assumed they used candles, lanterns and flashlights. When the fire was lit he turned to her and smiled. Nice place. Someone fixed this up real nice. Did you do all this? He could tell the curtains were new as were the window pains. The front door was pretty much new with modern locks on them. He walked over to the several windows and pulled the shades shut on each one. he was glad to see the shades were thick so no light snuck out. He didnt want the light alerting the Hunters to where they were.

"Jo and I." Kali said, looking about. She didn't see Jo anywhere. "She did most of it though." The girl continued to look around. "Well," Kali said, "we should probably put our things away." she didn't know what they were to do after she put her belongings in the bedroom. Would it be alright if they went outside? Kali hoped so. She didn't like being cooped up indoors, but she didn't want to risk the Hunters either. The woman walked up the hallway and opened the door to one bedroom and stepped inside. She began to hang her things in the closet and set her make up and other items on the dresser. She wondered if Ryan wanted his own room or not. It would be the logical thing, but if anyone else needed to move in, they would need the space. Kali didn't know much about the Hunters, but if they were going to do what most criminals did, they would probably go for someone else in the group next. Someone now that Kali had come in contact with, and down the line it would proceed until they had attacked everyone. Or so she feared.

Ryan nodded walking around the room slowly, checking things out. When he saw Kali move into the back hallway he turned to following. Picking up his own pack and went into the bedroom where she was putting her things away. Ill take the bedroom across the hall from yours if you need me. He would have like to share a bedroom with her, but he knew that she needed her space and it was probably the best move anyways. He turned and went into his own bedroom, and threw his things on the bed and began going through them. he saw a lantern on the table next to his bed and smiled. it would be a first for him to live like this, he never even went to a camp when he was younger. He went to the window on the far wall and pulled the curtains closed. He wished he could keep them open for the light, but they couldnt take any chances. Do you have any other blankets? both of our beds only have one cover blanket, from what I know it gets cold here at night. he paused and did a circle, looking for a closet that might have extra blankets.

Kali thought a moment and went to the fireplace, and picked up a blanket near the couch. "Here's one." she said, taking it to him. Kali put it on his bed. She sighed. Being kept in this cabin forever wouldn't make her happy. "Do you think that it might be safe to go outside?" she asked him. "Just for a little while?" There wasn't really much to do in a cabin with no electricity. "We could even go back into town if you wanted." Just moments here, and she wanted to get away. It wasn't that she didn't like the cabin, she loved it. It was simply that it was so early in the morning with not much to do. The cabin was more fun at night. Or so Kali thought.

Ryan nodded and thanked her for the blanket which he smoothed over her bed. He was about to ask if she needed a blanket for her own bed when she asked if they could go outside, but when she said into town he raised his head to look at her in a swift almost angry motion. No! We cannot go into town yet. Maybe in a day or two. As for outside I think that would be ok. There are chairs on the porch and trails near the back of that old barn over there. His expression softened as he realized he answered her a bit harsher then he had meant too. He walked over to her and out his hands on each of her shoulders. They will be on a sharp lookout for us for a few days. I would rather stay out here for more then a day or two before I allow you to go back into town. But I know thats a loosing battle. We can go in the day after tomorrow. Get supplies, anything that will either help us or keep us busy. Other food, maybe a bunch or books. He laughed thinking that after reading one book they might grow very bored. If worse comes to worse they can hike a lot and get into better shape. They could even train together, they arts of hand to hand combat. Ryan might even go purchase a few weapons. When we do go into town Im going to buy a few weapons. What do you know how to use? Guns, knives, your own hands? I have a lot of training, if you dont know something Ill teach you.

She nodded a little, "I know how to use a knife, and I was actually planning on buying one along with a gun in town." Kali told him. But she had forgotten to get one when they were there this morning for his clothes. "But I want to learn." she said when he told that he could teach her. "I want to learn everything." Kali moved her fingers, unconscious that she had down so. She imagined her claws, bathed in the blood of their enemy. She went to sit by the fire for a moment, taking in its warmth in the cool morning air. "I could teach you how to hunt." she offered, meaning in animal form. It would make for a good pastime. "And I can show you how to hide in the grasses and make yourself almost invisible." These things, she wondered, if he already knew how to do. But she wanted to teach him something in return, no matter what it was. Kali turned her head to think.

Ryan nodded and was glad to hear she knew a little about defense, no matter what weapon it was. He thought about what other weapons they should have in case something came up. Maybe things hidden around the cabin. He would have to look around the shop and see what he liked. He too walked over to the fire, plopping down in one of the rocking chairs and starred into the flames. He couldnt believe all the things that have happened to him in the past several weeks. It was almost like a story in a book, amazing things happen in a crazy short amount of time. When she spoke of teaching him a few things. he gave her a sly little smile. I can hunt and hide pretty well. Hyenas' may not be the greatest of hunters for being lazy, and they can be stealthy if they want to. They just always like letting everyone know that they are here. But thank you for the offer. He smiled at her thinking that it was generous and kind that she was trying to give back to him for the lessons he would be giving her, so to speak. He looked around the cabin thinking he should set up some quick grab weapons so to speak, under the kitchen table, things like that.

She struggled. Was there anything that he didn't know? It was hard, trying to think of something to teach to a trained killer. No, not a killer. Not anymore, if ever. Simply an ex-hunter, trained to kill. Kali searched her mind, unable to find anything. She sighed, defeated. "I want to teach you something too." she told him, "but I can't think of anything that you don't already know." It was then that she got an idea. Maybe cooking? Or fishing? Kali could teach him how to bat the slippery creatures out of the water with his paws, and then cook them so that they tasted less fishy. "How are you at fishing?" she asked him hopefully. If not that, she would have to think of some other way to repay him.

Ryan looked away from the fire and looked at her. Now there was an idea. Ive never been good at fishing. And cooking. But fishing could be a skill I could use if im out in the wild for an extended period of time. We can also eat them for dinner here. Thats when Ryan had a silly thought. He got up and went to look out the window that was near the barn, but it was too dark to see that far. We could even fix up that barn and paddock and get some animals in here. How bout cow and goat milk? Chickens for eggs? He laughed. We could become farmers, totally independent of the outside world. And you can teach me how to grow stuff in a garden. Ryan smiled at the thought. For some reason he liked the idea of living out here with their own little farm so they didnt even really have to go into town other then to have fun or buy a few other supplies. It was like living in the west in the old days. His eyes twinkled from the idea. But he didnt know if Kali would like that. I mean, she was already asking if they could go into town and they had only been there for a few minutes. He laughed again so if she didnt want to do that they could shrug it off like it was a joke.

"That's a great idea!" she exclaimed. They would have to run it by Jo, to see if she liked it too, but it sounded great to Kali. "And we could get an old lazy hound dog that could lay out on the porch!" she didn't know why she suggested that, but the dog just seemed to complete the picture. An old and loyal bloodhound with droopy eyes, skin all wrinkly and sloppy. He could keep watch for the hunters. Kali leaned back, imagining it. "And we could keep our own fish bait!" she said. All you had to do was dig a square hole in the ground and put board on the inside, fill it with soil and worms. Then you had an endless supply of bait. Just drop a shovel or two full over the edge of water, let it sit overnight. By morning, all the big fish would be there, feasting.

Ryan looked up startled as she burst out smiling. Really? I love the idea too, just didnt know if you would or not. We can go to town, buy all the supplies we need, seeds for the garden, all the wood and tools to fix up the barn. What animals should we have? I think maybe 6 chickens that run free, a single dairy cow? goat to clean the paddocks for they eat everything. What else? He thought about maybe a pig or two, but he didnt know if Kali would like killing her own food, he could do that but they dont need to go that overboard. Well they could, but they didnt have too. Town was only a short drive away. And the road to take this was already well hidden and there was plenty of good hiding places to hide a truck if he bought one. He would have to go see the barn and see how much room they had. He would love to have little of almost everything. But they will see. You can be in charge of the garden, ill fix up the barn and make paddocks and pens. I know a good place to buy wood and he will give me a bargen if i buy enough. Now he was really getting into.

"The chickens will need a coop to keep the foxes out." she said. The cow sounded like a marvelous idea to her, and she loved the goat. "I can take care of the garden," she agreed. There could be carrots and peas and celery, potatoes and tomatoes and green beans, cucumbers and lettuce and chives, peppermint, and maybe even a few stalks of corn. "Maybe we could even get some half-grown fruit trees and plant them." she suggested. Then they would have apples and peaches and cherries. Kali let out a happy laugh. This all seemed so wonderful to her. "We still have to ask Jocelyn though." she reminded him. Kali hoped that Jo would like it as much as she and Ryan did.

Ryan starred at her wide-eyed. Wow man, i didnt even know that many veggies existed. Ok, so.... 1 dairy cow, 1 goat, 6 chickens. all of your glorious plants. Any other creatures? Oh and a dog. He would need to go out in the morning and first see how much room they had. But then again he didnt feel like waiting till morning. He stood and walked over to the drawers and shelves in the kitchen and found two large flashlights. Care to scope it out? The barn and see what space we have, how many stalls and the fence for the paddock? He handed her the flashlight and headed out the door, careful to be quiet just in case. Although he didnt think they would be out this far.
When he got to the old barn he saw that it needed a lot of work. The roof needed re patching and the wall looked weak. But he slid the big old door open and went inside. From the looks of it there was a large loft that could hold all hay and food for the animals plus supplies. Then on the main floor there seemed to be four stalls meant for horses, but they could be used for anything. Then it looked like a pig pen and few other open spaces that could be made into anything. But he guessed it was for where the tracker sat. This will be perfect. I want to see the fence.
He opened the side door and went out into the paddock. It was small then he wold have liked, and the fence was weak and falling down. But as he looked around he smiled. Good, the area around the paddock is open enough for me to make it bigger, or to make 2 or 3 pens. Then on the other side of the barn, farthest away from the house i can make another pen for the pigs if we decide to get them. He was planning it out all in his mind. Where do you want the chicken coop to go? He asked turning to her. he knew this would take days of back wrenching work, but he liked the idea and would be glad to do something while they 'hid' away from the Hunters.

Kali took the flashlight and followed him, quiet as he was. The fresh air of dawn was cold and fresh, and Kali made steam with her breath as she exhaled. She kept in pace with him all about the barn and paddock, gazing and listening in amazement. It did need work, but it would be beautiful when it was all finished. "The chicken coop can go right here." she said, walking to the opposite side of the barn where nothing lie, just an open space, but out of the way of his paddocks. It wouldn't have to be big. Just six little hens, clucking away at the world. Their only job to have eggs for their masters. "I can help you with the barn too, and Jo could help as well." Kali kept bringing her name up, trying to tell Ryan that they shouldn't plan ahead to far without Jo's approval, but didn't want to come right out and say it. It would ruin his moment if she did. The woman smiled and stood beside him as they looked around. It was really a wonderful place, in its own way. Old and creaking, like an ancient castle far past its days of use. It would look even better once they fixed it up.
