Appearance: Mo has wild light brown hair that is impossible to keep in place, sticking out in random places that change every time he wakes up. He always has just a little bit of stubble, after figuring out that he looked more than stupid with a mustache. He hasn't tried a goatee yet, but intends to. His almond-shaped eyes are green and usually glowing with a playfully mysterious light, as if he knows something but won't tell. Only up-close will you notice that his left eye is, no matter how hard he tries to deny it, growing, getting larger as if it were swelling, and changing colors. Instead of green, it's begun to turn yellow. It seems a normal color at the moment, just hazel. But it's not playful, and it slides slowly to the left if he doesn't re-focus his gaze. It's a trick of the mind that thinks they're both the same, since he usually stands at an angel to keep his good side closer to the person he's watching or talking to.
Mo has a naturally goofy face, and is always smiling, even if it's so faint as to be almost none-existent. His eyebrows are dark and pretty thick, with a nose that's narrow and slightly hooked and thin lips. He isn't the tallest, but he is stout and sturdy. He carries himself like he knows where he's going and isn't afraid of what or who he will find when he gets there. He looks like someone anyone could go to and he would try to help, because he would. Mo never wears short sleeved shirts or shorts for a reason. He tries to hide the scars underneath, and almost always succeeds.
Personality: Remember that fear of being afraid earlier back? Mo is afraid to be afraid. He doesn't know why, but he does know that if he gets scared in a situation, he can't think right, and not being able to think right makes the situation go from bad to worse. So, he is always the calm center in the middle of the chaos, not allowing his emotions to run rampant and always the one who people go to for advise. The friend you can trust with anything, even if you hardly know him. However, he isn't a leader. He doesn't order. He suggests, gives hints in a round-about way, making the person come to the final conclusion for themselves. It's a game to him. He watches, he listens, and he learns. He doesn't outsmart his common sense, like a lot of people do. He warns them of the dangers, and they decide the best course of action. It's rare when he has to say "I have no clue." People often think that he knows much because he has the answers. But those answers are not answers. They're suggestions.
In his book, things aren't settled until they're fair. Things aren't the same until the penalty is paid and the time is served. He can't stand it when someone, or himself, is cheated. In terms of love, money, material items, anything. If it's not right, then it's not settled. With some things, you just have to let go. Not in Mo's case. He'll get bull-headed and solve the problem, even if it means risking his life. 'Pragmatic' is not in his dictionary, or anywhere near it. He doesn't hold grudges, but that saying 'forgive and forget' might as well not exist. Oh, sure, he'll forgive, but he never forgets. He has his head and heart wrapped around a pedestal of right and wrong. Things fall into right or they fall into wrong. Some call it being narrow-minded, but it's what he knows, and how he intends to stay.
When he's not being stubbon, the lookout, or the adviser, he is quite the charming fellow. If he does anything, he tries to do it well. Curiosity is another attribute: he wants to know how, why, when, where and what. He wants to understand.
Mother: Abri Volschenk
Father: Henrik Volschenk
Siblings: Themba Volschenk (brother), Moswen Volschenk (brother), Misa Volschenk (sister), Nomble Volschenk (sister)
Family of Note: Thomas Harper IS family, the crazy little monkey.
History: Mo was born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa, the youngest child. First were Themba and Moswen, twins, Themba being older. Two years later came Misa, one year later came Nomble, and three years later came Mo. That made him the most picked on, of course. Nomble claimed that she was glad she wasn't youngest anymore, and that she wouldn't miss those days of being tortured by the twins. Though, she did feel sorry for Mo. But it was all in the friendly kind of way that meant everybody was on good terms with everybody. They lived in a small house, shared all the work and chores and did what they could to get by. It wasn't much, but everyone was happy with it.
Mo, like all his siblings, finished high school, but got no further at that moment. He wanted to continue to college, but they couldn't afford it, so he settled for being a police officer (he only had to go through a couple months of special training for it). At age 24, he met Tale Coote, a news reporter with a heart of gold and eyes that burned like fire with the light of adventure and the hunger to know more. He married her after dating for almost two years, and Paki came along four years later (Mo was 30, Tale, 31).
Only a couple of months after Paki's birth, Mo, his partner, and four other officers were sent to confirm the suspicion of a meth lab just inside city limits. Sure enough, it was true. The four others took care of the three young men who were in the middle of it while Mo and his partner went in to investigate. While inside, the lab exploded, killing Mo's partner and almost killing Mo. He recovered, but had gone blind in his left eye and deaf in his left ear from the blast. Nothing important happened for four years. Then he began to notice he was being tailed when he was patrolling the town, or that he was being watched while grocery shopping with Tale at the store. He even met one of the stalkers one time in an alleyway. A tall, dark-haired young man had followed Mo there. The confrontation was breif, few words were spoken. The man simply said that a town named Noatak would be Mo's home very soon. It ended with the stranger turning into a tiger and loping away. Mo had been too stunned to react, thinking surely he'd just lost his mind, and he decided to talk Talk about it. But it was already too late.
He got home to discover his house was burned to the ground, his wife and son both dead. He lost himself and tried to find them in the rubble. He failed and only earned himself serious burns that would fade eventually into scars on his arms and lower legs. As they pulled him out of the ash and wreckage, his friends tried to tell him it was mobsters, that it was something in the gas line messing up, that it was just an accident, but he knew who had taken away his life. He didn't say anything to them, though. They would think he'd gone insane, and he would never satisfy the burning for revenge in his heart if he was stuck in a ward. He didn't accept the offer to stay with Themba, his wife and his daughter in the small town outside of Johannesburg, nor with Misa and her husband in the countryside, or his parents on the other side of the city, even for a day. Moswen was traveling on business and Nomble was in the hospital with her first child. Mo didn't know how he would get back at the killer, mainly because his head told him that they could have been anybody while his heart screamed 'Hunters'. And he knew just which one. He quit his job and moved to Noatak, Canada, determined to get to the bottom of this and get his revenge. He told no one where, he told no one why. He knew it was his fault that his family was dead, but he knew that just wallowing in self-hate and/or self-pity would not satisfy him. He had to act, and act he would.
Talisman: Common Raven
Description: Mo's talisman is sharp, with a keen eye and good instincts. Mo, in his Talisman form, can often be found perched atop a building, watching. He has to constantly remind himself to take flight if someone comes around him like a normal bird. He normally remains near town, though, prefering to stay near his new home territory, as he thinks of it.
