CunningWolf
Name: Aras Duval
Age: 21
Height: 5’11”
Gender: Male
Orientation: straight
Status: Hunter
Picture:
Face Claim: Jim Sturgess
Appearance:
At first glance, there is nothing particularly striking about Aras. He is of average height - about five foot eleven – with an athletic build, and his past ear-length brown hair and hazel eyes are nothing special. However, upon further observation, one may notice his faint smile and atypically confident air. Though he appears relaxed, one adept at reading body language might realize that he is constantly on his guard, and that the confident air may not always be as genuine as it first seems.
He is usually seen wearing something plain and comfortable that allows great freedom of movement. He often wears a jacket under which he can conceal a weapon or two, typically a handgun and a knife.
Personality:
Composed and self-possessed, very little appears to perturb Aras. He gets along well with most people and generally feels comfortable in social situations. His tolerant and non-judgmental nature allows others to find it easy to talk to him. However, his laid-back personality does not mean he is a pushover; he is more than capable of defending himself if threatened.
He can keep a cool head in nearly any situation and is not easily provoked into unnecessary fights. He prefers to avoid a confrontation, if possible; if he has no choice, he tries to end it as quickly as he can. Aras does, however, have an impulsive side; sometimes, while reflecting on a previous action, he wonders why he ever chose to do such a thing at such a moment. He also deliberately puts off decision-making until the last minute, preferring to ignore problems rather than confront them, which can cause much needless trouble for everyone involved. Willing to admit his mistakes, he is responsible enough to take the consequences of his actions. He dislikes putting blame on others unless they are undoubtedly guilty.
Aras is not a particularly empathetic individual. Subtle emotions often escape his notice. He’s not exactly one for comforting words and gestures, either, and is more of a listener than a talker. He can come off as a bit distant; while he enjoys company, he rarely ever actively seeks it.
He prefers to keep his opinions, especially those on controversial topics, to himself, and he tries to keep an open mind. Though he may not agree with all aspects of a certain course of action, he will often just go along with it to spare himself and others the trouble that would arise if he objected.
Despite all that has been going on, he often comes off as a bit naïve. Compared to many others, he has led a fairly happy life. While not ignorant of the world’s troubles, Aras has the tendency to take his relatively peaceful childhood for granted. His general lack of experience comes as a disadvantage. He tends toward a more optimistic view of human character and can therefore be too quick to trust.
History:
Born to a neutral family – neither Hunter nor Innocent – Aras was the youngest of four children. He grew up outside of Noatak but aware of the Talismans and their history. Some time before his Talisman appeared, his family had begun making predictions. A cheetah, perhaps – he had the focus. Or maybe an antelope – he was quick to think on his feet. (Aras suspected his siblings were making bets, an accusation they denied even through their cheeky grins.) When the vulture made itself known, some people were surprised—others, not so much.
Well aware of the dangers of the world in which they lived, his parents made sure Aras and his siblings knew how to defend themselves. They trained in order to shift with incredible speed, and each of them learned to use some sort of weapon, be it a knife or a gun. Through this, Aras discovered an innate ability for sharpshooting, a skill he worked to perfect.
Ironically, the Hunters somehow caught wind of this and quickly tracked him down. It was easy to ‘convince’ him to join them; if he didn’t cooperate, they’d hunt down his family, one by one. It wasn’t an enchantment, it wasn’t a drug—it was pure coercion. To his parents and siblings, he had simply disappeared in a world where disappearance was nearly synonymous with death.
The Hunters brought him from place to place, their steps nearly impossible to trace, putting his talents as scout and sniper to frequent use. There were close calls, and he made himself more than a few enemies, but Aras managed to escape each time—though not necessarily unscathed. He eventually arrived in Noatak, where he has stayed for the past year or so.

Talisman: Vulture; bearded vulture, to be exact.
Picture:
- Aras is a dead shot with most firearms, unless something manages to break his concentration. He also knows how to use a compound bow.
- He’s fairly proficient at hand-to-hand combat and uses a style similar to judo.
- He’s oddly fond of coffee.
- He hates the cold.
- He’s farsighted. Needs reading glasses.
- He doesn’t have a problem with heights. At all. He does have a problem with boats—or more accurately, being on a boat.
