Actually arrived in town last week, but it's taken this long to find a half-decent apartment--by which I mean one that has less than ten cockroaches scurrying away every time I open a door--and find someone willing to install dialup in the building. Dialup! In the frigging building! What is this, the Stone Age or something? Does nobody talk to anybody online here? Seriously wondering about my decision to come here now. Had to have been absolutely smashed when I heard the rumors. And packed my bags. And ordered the plane ticket. And found a bus running to the city closest to Noawhatever. And walked the rest of the way.
God, this town really is in the Stone Age.
Predictably, not a single local turned out to greet me, except for a slightly batty old man who told me it was nice knowing me before turning into a definitely batty Common Pipistrelle and flying away. Honestly, do these people even try?
Definitely hope the Hunters and Innocents here are considerably more...well, more everything. Otherwise it'll be a waste of time asking Tsai to visit. On second thought, though, it might be funny seeing her expression.
Got to be off. I need to find someone willing to install heating in this apartment for less than twenty bucks. Being poor blows.

Officially out of chicken-flavoured Cup Noodle. That's the last of my ramen stash, I guess. May have to go shopping later. This is Canada; there's gotta be an Asian grocery store somewhere in town.
Think I may be coming down with something, too. I found a guy who said he'd install a heater last night but conveniently forgot to mention that I was flat broke, and this morning he bailed out on me for some reason. This has got to be illegal. I'd sue, except I can't afford a lawyer.
Whatever. All that crap about catching a cold by being cold is biologically unsound, no matter what my grandmother always said. Pithy sayings only get you so far in the real world.

Elected not to go to the clinic. I don't have any money and this will probably go away on its own anyway. Have, however, resorted to licking the insides of used Cup Noodle containers for sustenance. May have to venture outside for a shopping trip before I start on the containers themselves.
There's got to be a grocery store around here. Or even a Chinese restaurant. We're everywhere, right?
Right?

Apparently not. Got as many groceries as my twenty bucks would allow, and I won't starve as long as I can stomach Gatorade and cereal, but where the hell are all the Asian marts? There are like a billion (okay maybe five) Asians in town, where do they get their food? I mean, I went over to one of them and asked and she just shot, like, this deathface at me and said something about swine flu. And I was too braindead to think up a really witty comeback, so I said “Your MOM has swine flu” and then she just looked at me and left.
But seriously, there isn't even a restaurant in town. Not even a shitty takeout place. This is a community whose air is free of the scents of peanut oil and MSG, and it breaks my heart.
I haven't even properly met anyone here yet and I can't feel my head and life sucks. The only way this could possibly get better is if I have someone to whom to spread the misery.

Hey, I think I actually managed to spread my cold to everyone at the Hunter meeting today! That was great. I'll probably have to watch my back for the next month or so, because now everybody hates me, but that was so worth it. Schadenfreude's a bitch, innit.
On the downside, I did get kicked out of the meeting early when I snotted on Sharpe and she literally ordered me to the clinic. She's such a spoilsport. This better not be coming out of my paycheck, man, or I totally quit.
But all things considered, it's a pretty small downside. I made an appointment at the clinic for 8 AM tomorrow. We'll see how that goes.

He's perfect, he's so handsome and reserved and polite and charming and he said I could visit again tomorrow if I don't feel any better, I mean, that's like showing interest or something, isn't it? And he looks good in white, although probably he would look good in any color, he has the eyes for it, they're the most gorgeous eyes I've ever seen and—oh for heaven's sake, why do I have to justify this on my HJ? I mean, it's an inanimate program and nobody except An-qi and Bian Ly read it anyw—oh shit.
