ooc; i know. she'll live in our hearts...well...maybe not kali's lol
Ryan's ears swiveled in every direction like a radar. Yes, something was out there but what he didn't know. He could hear some very small tiwgs snapping as it got closer. He kept pace, he wanted to move faster, but couldn't for Kali would rip her ankle to shreads if she moved any faster. But then again, if it was necessary...He leaned into her. If anything happens. Run. Don't look back and don't stop. He kept moving.
Kayla heart was thumping in her chest, her body sunk low to the ground as the fear grew. She trotted up to Ryan and Kali, trying to feel safer with them. She didn't. She hissed and looked around, every nerve on edge.
Vicky had gotten a tip from an anoymous source, and she had followed it. She had just lost a trophy, an Innocent that had gotten away, and she was mad. She needed to vent, and hunting was the best way to do it. She crawled through the bushes in her animal form and saw the trio. Her target would be the more injured cougar, but with the massive hyena it decrease the success rate. Her eyes shifted to the leopard. How to attack, animal or human form. Animal form she was smaller, but built and stocky with very long sharp claws. Human form she had a knife. No. She wanted to fight. Knife was too easy. She'll attack as a badger, then shift to kill with the knife. Yes. She pounced.
Kayla saw the motion but reacted too late. Some large brown animal landed on her lower back, sinking teeth and claws into the muscle. She screamed and hissed, trying to run away and yet at the same time, bite the animal.
Ryan jumped and saw the attack happen on Kayla. He needed to help. He needed Kali safe. Get outta here! I have to help! Run! He told Kali.

"Hell no!" she shouted back at him. "I'm not leaving you!" I still have three legs. she thought. I can fight. But the more she thought about it, she would only get in the way. But she wouldn't be leaving Ryan, either. Her eyes darted to the creature that had attacked. A badger. A Hunter, probably. No badger in its right mind would attack its predator. Kali didn't know what to do. She couldn't leave Ryan, couldn't fight... She climbed the tree. Up and up she went, until she hovered just above the battle, some thirty feet up, watching. If anything happened to Ryan, she'd jump, no matter the costs. But surely Kayla could handle herself against a badger. "Sit on it! Squish him!" she yelled down. If they could immobilize it, they could win.

*Warning...might be a bit gruesome...sorry*
Ryan shook his head about to yell at her to get the hell out of there, but before he could say anything she was climbing the tree. He sent her a growl of his disapproval before turning around and bounding towards the fight. As Ryan got closer his heart sank. The badger had skillfully bitten the leopard right on the lower spine and had partially paralyzed her. The leopard fought hard, but barely being able to move her hind end was taking its toll on her. The Badger was a very skilled Hunter.
Ryan lept in and smacked the Badger with his front leg. It went flying into the trees with a thump. He turned to Kayla, looking at her where she lay. She was badly hurt, bleeding from multiple wounds. And her back lay at an odd angle. Kayla, can you.. move. He finished in his head. he was about to bend down and pick her up when he heard a quiet swoosh swooshing sound. And by the time he realized what it was, a 6 inch knife sunk deep into Kayla's chest.
He phased into his human form, as she slowly faded into hers. The knife went in to its hilt, and there was no way to get it out without causing more pain. He held her head in his hands talking to her. She could barely speak, mumbled. A slow trickle of blood ran down the side of her mouth, and she lay still.
Don't...don't come over her Kali. His voice wavered a bit. He didn't want her to see this. But he needed to sound strong. He smoothed his palm over her face, closing her eyes. He heard laughing. He looked up and say Vicky slowly backing into the trees, into the darkness. He screamed at her, but let her leave. He didn't want more blood being spilled.

(gruesome is fine with me)
Kali disobeyed again, coming down the tree and limping over to them. She sat opposite Ryan, her ankle slightly raised, and looked down at the girl that lay in his hands. Her heart sank. She had never seen a dead person before, save for the skeleton and the Hunter that Ryan had killed. But never an innocent person who did nothing wrong.
Kali felt awful. She hadn't done much to make her final hours worthy. She could have treated her better. She could have kept her cool, like Ryan said. She pressed her nose against the side of her face, her skin already growing cold with death. Guilt swelled in her. And sadness. Mourning. As much as Kali had hated this girl, she didn't deserve to die. "What do we do now?" her own voice waved, as Ryan's did. They couldn't just leave her here. She had to be reported to the town, any family notified.

Ryan hesitated before leaning back on his heals, letting his hands slip off her face. He wiped his hands on his jeans, getting some of her blood off before standing up. He looked at Kali, wanting to pull her close to him, to keep her from harm. But there was stuff to attend to. We notify the police. Tell them her location. We say we got attacked by someone, we think they tried to rob us, and panicked. Thats how you got hurt, and how she got..I am going to tell them we were injured and went to the hospital. Hence why we are not here.
He stood up from Kayla and walked away a few feet, turning his back against the cold, grey body. He pulled out a cell phone, and dialed 911. He reported it to the operator, sounding honest and believable. He snapped the phone shut and turned back to Kali.
If you use me for support can you want in human form? Or will it be easier with three legs? They needed to get to the cabin ASAP. Get the bleeding stopped, and if need be see how it is before doing anything else. They might actually need to go to the hospital, but he wont know for sure until that bleeding stops. He walked over to her and layed his hand on her shoulder, stroking the fur.

She licked her ankle a bit to stop the blood from dripping before she stood again, transforming and holding onto Ryan. Tears dropped from her eyes, and she looked over her shoulder at the body. But they had to get out of here now, and she limped back to the cabin, with Ryan for support. That phone call still rang in her ears. She wouldn't forget this night.
After a while of walking, she spoke, though her voice almost a whisper. "Who was that... that... the badger?" she asked. She reached for the cabin door, opening it slowly and going inside. The fire was still lit. Everything was as it was. Except for them. "Are you hurt?" she asked. Kali let go of him and hobbled over to the kitchen sink, lifting herself up onto the counter. The worst was tugging off her shoe. She bit back her tongue, undoing the laces and loosening it up as much as possible before she slid it off her foot, growling. She didn't want to pull her sock off. She knew it would brush against the wound and hurt. So she grabbed the scissors from the kitchen drawer and cut it, throwing the bloody cloth into the trash can. Now she looked at her ankle. On a cougar, a leopard's bite wasn't as bad as this. She shook her head, not knowing if her tears fell from the pain in her heart or the pain of her body as she ran the cold water over the wound.

Ryan walked along side Kali, one arm around her waist in silence. He replayed everything in his head, what he could have done differently, or how he could have acted to keep that girl alive. Her face wouldn't leave his mind, and all the blood, made his stomach turn. This was one reason why he didn't want to be a Hunter, why he wasn't a Hunter. He flicked his eyes towards Kali when she asked who that was. Victoria Edwards. One of the best Hunters I know. Viscous that thing.
He followed her into the cabin and lead her to a chair. He immediately went to the sink and got a cloth and some water, as well as bandages, some cream and antiseptic spray. He moved over to her right when she pulled off her sock. Ryan didn't even flinch at the scene. He cleaned the wound, using the spray and the cream, holding her ankle gently in his hand, and giving her soft looks when he needed to do something that caused more pain. He examined the wound and frowned.
I think you might need stitches. But thankfully, only a few since teeth wounds are small, but deep. I think I can do this if you trust me. He looked at her, waiting for her answer. He leaned forward and gaver her the softest kiss on the lips, holding it for a moment before pulling back.

Kali watched as he cleaned her wound. It hurt, but she didn't complain. Whenever she thought of flinching she remembered Kayla. She was in a far worse state than Kali. And she kept still.
She accepted his kiss, soft and gentle against her lips. She kissed him back when he pulled away. "I trust you." she told him. Kali had never had stitches before. She imagined they might hurt, but she didn't care. If it would heal her ankle faster, she wanted them. She leaned down, taking the thread and needle from the medical kit and handing them to Ryan. She trusted him. He had obviously seen enough wounds, experienced enough of them himself, to know how to stitch.
A twinge of fear poked at her stomach, but she pushed it aside. "Do you think the police have found her yet?" Kali asked him, trying to start a conversation to distract herself with. She thought about Kayla. Even if she had only known her for less than an hour, and hated her all the way through it, she had taught Kali a valuable lesson. Treat everyone as if they'll die tomorrow. Forget the little things that make you angry, and savor the things that bring you happiness. Kali looked down at Ryan. "I love you." she said.

Ryan took the needle and thread and gave her a reassuring look. He slipped the thread through the eye of the needled and made a careful knot. We have some rum in the cabinet. I suggest you take some. And, babe, don't move. He gave her a playful smile, trying to ease away her nerves, whether it worked or not he didn't stop to see. For he 'dove' right in. He bent down and located the first of three small wounds that he thought would need a few stitches. She was lucky each wound would need only 2-5 stitches.
Did I mention I love you too? He said as he squeezed the hole together and quickly pushed the needle through the skin, he didn't stop to ask if she was ok. He knew what it felt like. He kept going, making the loop, peirce the skin, tie a loop, push through the skin. When he put 3 stitches in the first wound and tied the ending knot he paused and looked up. He gave a quick nod of his head in the direction of the rum, seeing if she needed any before he continued. Stick. Tie. Stick. Tie.
After several minutes he had all three teeth holes sowed up and they looked pretty good. He leaned back from the chair and let out a sigh of relief. He took the cloth and dabbed the stitches to get the rest of the blood off before taking everything to the sink to be cleaned.

Kali watched him do it. She could feel the needle piercing her skin each time, but she didn't flinch. Any pain she felt she knew was only temporary, and left the rum in the cabinet. Kali was no wimp. She was tired enough as it was. Any alcohol and she'd be out.
When he was finished, she examined it. "You're a good doctor, babe." she told him. Kali got up off the chair and made her way to the couch. Right now, she wanted nothing more than to cuddle up by the fire with him and go to sleep. She wanted to stop thinking about Kayla. She wanted to stop thinking about Hunters and death. All she wanted right now was her boyfriend.

Ryan smiled at her when he was done cleaning and stitching her ankle. He took one quick swig of the run and put it back before walking over to the couch along with Kali. He slipped off his shoes and moved over to the fire, adding a log and poking it a bit to get the flames going stronger. He stretched before laying down on the couch, slipping in behind Kali, so he was against the back and she near the edge. He let his legs entertwine with her, but careful to avoid the hurt one. He wrapped his arms around her and let his head rest on her shoulder.
I feel like we haven't sat down in like a week. God it's been such a long night. Just think, it all started to go for a nice walk, to get some fresh air. He glanced up at the big clock on the wall and was a bit shocked that it said 3:30 am. He knew he had intentionally avoided answering her question about the police finding Kayla, because he didn't know. It was dark and out in the woods. The only chance they had was using dogs. Plus he thought it was best to try not to think about it. He was sure they would hear about it on the news tomorrow.
Lets not do this again for a while. I like the relaxing part, but not everything else. He leaned down and layed a kiss on her ear and whispered sweat words into her ear, before letting his eyes close, for they could barely stay open.
(ooc; after your next post, shall we end this? and do you want to start a new thread? or what? up to you.)

Kali pressed her back against his chest, melting into him. She let their legs intertwine and listened to his voice. "I agree." she said. She didn't want to do this again for a long while. Snuggling, she liked. But not everything else. She tried not to think about it.
The firelight warmed her face, and she closed her eyes, hugging his arm against her chest like a teddy bear. She listened to him whisper, smiling when he kissed her, knowing that she loved him. She kissed his fingers gently, and she fell asleep holding his hand.
(Ooc: Sure, we can start a new thread. Let's talk in the c-box)
