What's Your Cover?
Appearance: coming soon to a biography near you
Personality:
It is said that certain animals turn heads, certain spirits radiate strength or power in such a way others feel it as they pass. Some people are simply unforgettable. Rasmus would be one of those people. Though he is currently searching for his talisman, it is pretty obvious which of the bunch he should have. Clever and witty, Razzy is most well known for his sharp tongue and his quick wit. His mind is agile like a cat, high energy like a dog, leaving him to constantly pick apart and analyze his surroundings from an observer's perspective. Always looking for an angle or an edge, he has an powerful interest in his own personal goals and achievements and, though rather social and easy to talk to, he is not the kind of guy to care a lot about others. He lacks compassion and can be kind of cold in regards to the feelings and emotions of others. No, he is much too arrogant for that sentimental crap.
Though he has more self-confidence than he knows what to do with, resulting in an almost tangible sense of arrogance, most of it is misplaced. Clever, quick witted and bold, but also foolish, naive, and narrow-minded. Rasmus has a tendency to tunnel-vision whenever he sets a goal for himself. He can be rather stubborn about what he wants and his determination and pride fuel a never-ending desire to obtain it, often bordering on obsession (such as his obsession with obtaining the power of his talisman). Though this means he almost always gets what he desires, he often misses out on a lot of things, ignoring friends and family as well as making stupid mistakes. He falls a lot and his plans constantly fail. But, he is a strategist by nature and is always willing (not to mention prepared) to formulate a new plan whenever his old ones go array. Normally this just makes him look like a stubborn idiot, picking fights it takes him weeks to win. But his such an observer, and so clever, that he can always find that extra edge, that little weakness his enemy tries to hide, and in the end, comes out on top.... somehow.
Cunning, planner, mischievous, strength in numbers
Also has a good sense of humor, is a quick learner, and can be incredibly curious. He strives for power and longs to be the best at... something, anything... everything. He's very ambitious and sets a lot of high goals for himself. But hardly gets discouraged when he fails. Is also rather high energy, with some symptoms of Schizoaffective disorder (goes through periods of extreme euphoria to the point of laughing when such behavior is unwarranted, rapid speech [sometimes to the point of incoherency], scrambled thoughts, and other sorts of hypomanic symptoms, directly opposite periods of emotional detachment or affective flattening [lack of emotional response] and social widthdrawal). However, this is an undiagnosed disorder as Razzy is too busy with his hunt for his talisman to consider that something might be wrong with him. Is also a noted pyromaniac, but to a diluted degree. Again, his tendency to obsess on other things distracts him from impulses to start fires.... usually.
In short: he's kind of a whack-job.
Tell me where you've been
History: Rasmus, for all the things wrong with him now, was actually a very normal child growing up. He was born into a rather large family living in a built-up portion of South Africa. His family was originally primarily Scottish and German, with much of his father's side living in the states. His mother, by contrast, was born and raised in England, and she and his father had met in college and married when their first son was conceived. The two worked their way through college: Rasmus' father Arthur obtaining a degree in computers and his mother, Raziya (pronounced r-ah-zh-ya), obtained a degree in biology, going on to be a botanist. They eventually ended up moving from their first home in England to the United States before jumping back on a plane less than a year later and making their permanent home in South Africa. They'd already had five children by this time (in order from oldest to youngest: Raiden, Richter, Radley, Riley and Rolan, all boys) and Rasmus was the sixth.
So Razzy was born in South Africa, where his mother worked studying plants for medicinal purposes. There, she and her husband picked up the animistic culture of the native African tribes and people... but Razzy doesn't remember this much. Nor does he remember any of the strange occurrences surrounding his birth and early life that often inexplicably involved spotted hyenas. In fact, for a short period of time, his family kept a small hyena cub, who slept in the same room as Rasmus when he was still an infant and grew into sort of a family pet. The hyena even protected him at one point from an attacking lioness (who was just defending her cubs, whom Razzy stumbled upon blindly in the darkness), only to die later due to injuries sustained.
But again, Razzy remembers next to nothing of his childhood. You see, somewhere between his very busy parents and his stressful life among five older brothers and their friends, Rasmus developed a series of tumors on his brain that caused him to behave very oddly and is likely responsible for his lack of memory of this time in his childhood. The development of said tumors reached a height when he was about 5, causing him horrible pain, nightmares and eventually seizures. But his family was kind and both parents quit their jobs and shipped the whole family back to the United States, where they worked feverishly to find a doctor who could help him. It took about two years, but the tumors were removed and the subsequent damage dealt with and by 12, Rasmus was pretty much a normal kid again.
At that age, he appeared to have no negative side affects from the surgery and medication used to kill the tumors in his skull, and even the few that did surface from time to time were dealt with through medication and minor intervention. His parents were as diligent as they could possibly be, but the work involved in curing their son of this ailment, all while unemployed, left a crater-sized hole in the family funds. Even after his mother regained her job in botany and his father started working three jobs a day, the family still could not afford to keep themselves afloat. Especially not with Rasmus' brothers, most of whom were bitter about all the attention the "baby of the family" was getting, doing nothing but complicating the problem. When Riley turned out to have a horrible drug addiction and Rolan was admitted to a mental institution, the parents had little choice other than to send their remaining son away. Raiden and Richter were already on their way to successful careers (Raiden was a pilot for the airforce and Richter was on his way to being a computer technician) so Rasmus was the one who was SOL this time. Particularly since the family was hold up in New York City, a rather expensive place to live at the time.
Rasmus was sent to live with family in California: his mother's sister Mana, and her husband Frank. Needless to say, he was less than happy with this movement. Though he hated his life with his angry brothers and his constantly busy, often neglectful parents, he enjoyed all of the donations and items her received after his near death tumor-related experience. He missed the familiarity of his house and missed being spoiled, to be honest. He began to misbehave and act out, particularly against his uncle Frank, whose short-temper clashed with Rasmus' outspoken, easily angered, stubborn demeanor. His auntie Mana was far more understanding.
Eventually, Frank had had enough and divorced his wife, forcing both her and Rasmus to move out of his house. The pair moved here to Noatak recently, leaving Rasmus feeling isolated again, resenting such unnecessary changes as a result of stupid people. He's a little angry right now but should warm up to this place in time. He and his Auntie Mana live in a medium sized but rather run down two bedroom house with Rasmus' prized pit bull, a big game bred male named Lucifer (though Rasmus will often just call him Lu or Luey) who was a gift from his heart-broken parents before they sent him off. Though Razzy is very attached to his big hulking dog, he rarely shows it and often kicks at the pit bull when annoyed with him. But Luey is mindlessly affectionate toward people, so he never acts aggressively in response. He is only aggressive with other dogs, since Rasmus didn't do the best job of socializing him. Lucifer attacked a police dog when Rasmus was still in California, and is now labeled a dangerous dog. But the people of Noatak have yet to discover this.
Show me your soul
Talisman: has narrowed it down to either a hyena, a snake, a coyote or a Tasmanian devil. But Razzy is not sure which it is. (honestly, it's a white hyena, but he does not know that)
